This image is a visual representation of the personal statement that I wrote for acceptance into this graduate program. In my essay, I hoped to share my thoughts about education, it’s purposes, and what education should offer. In a word wordle such as this one, the larger words represent the main focus of the paper whether intentional or not. The smaller words are topics that are least mentioned in the essay.
Thankfully, the word “children” dramatically stands out in my wordle. It also sits on top of the entire collection of words which I think makes an important statement as well. Our children should be the main focus when thinking about the way we go about education in our public and private schools. Notice that “students” is a much smaller word in comparison. This is because the individuals that sit in our classrooms are children first, before they are students. This is important to me because I believe that children should experience the joys of being a child while receiving their education. To me that means experiencing the “arts” in “school” and in the “community,” which happen to be the next largest words in the wordle.
When looking at my wordle, I hope that you will notice the personal words that are mixed in with the more general terms of my paper. I think that effective teachers must incorporate their personal experiences as they teach in order to help their students realize the importance of their own individual experiences as they learn. This helps to build social and emotional learning, create strong classroom communities, and promote a deeper understanding of academic content.
